Review: Sometimes I Lie

Sometimes I Lie by Alice Feeney
Publisher: Flatiron Books • Publication Date: October 30, 2018

Content Warning: Arson, rape

Sometimes I Lie had been on my TBR list for a while and I’m so glad I finally got to it thanks to having the book purchased for me in an Instagram random act of kindness exchange. I feel like the best word to describe this book is bonkers, but in a good way! If you want to go on a bit of a wild ride with a mystery, this is the book to do it with.

Without giving too much away, Amber is in the hospital in a coma after being in a car accident. She can hear everything around her but cannot speak or move. She doesn’t remember the accident or some of the events the days before the accident. As her memory starts to return, the book flashes back and forth between the present and the past to tell Amber’s story and what lead her to be where she is.

What I really enjoyed about this book was as soon as I thought I understood something, Feeney changed course and I was like what is happening now? Everyone becomes a suspect and as you get further into the story, you have no idea who to trust. The ending had me questioning everything and it’s the type of ending that will stay with you. It’s a very twisted book and I definitely will be reading more books by Feeney now.
