Review: Dial A for Aunties

Dial A for Aunties by Jesse Q. Sutanto
Publisher: Berkley • Publication Date: April 27, 2021

Are you looking for a book that is going to keep you laughing throughout the whole story? Pick up Dial A for Aunties! There was a part of me that didn’t want to stop reading the book because I was having so much fun with it. This is the type of book that I feel would be fantastic to listen to the audiobook version of, and I definitely feel at some point I’m going to have to try it on audio.

This book has it all, mystery, family dynamics, and romance, all while celebrating Chinese and Indonesian heritage. While the romance between Meddy and Nathan is sweet, it is really Meddy and her family that take center stage. I loved each of her aunts and her mom, and I’d like to see them each get a spinoff book. There was never a question that they would not only cover up a murder, but then band together multiple times to move a dead body. The unconditional love they all had for each other was great, and their banter was perfection.

While I’m always nervous about book to screen adaptions, I’m excited to see this book turned into a Netflix movie and I hope it is as hilarious as the book. I also can’t wait for the sequel to be reunited with all of the family members!
